There are no other differences between the two variations of wheels. The wheel manufacturers who create the two different varieties use the same outer parts (bowl) for both the single and 00 wheels.

Other predictive methods

This means you have a reasonable idea of where and when the ball will fall, because the time taken for the final four ball revolutions is much the same even on different spins. And you will have already determined that the ball bounces in at least a reasonably predictable way. So all that’s left is to determine which numbers will be under the dominant diamonds when the ball falls. It may sound impossible, but this is the approach that has won fortunes. The American roulette wheel adds a double zero (so now the wheel has a 0 and a 00), bumping up the house edge to 5.26% with a total of 38 numbers. However, often on high roller tables in America, they will revert to the single zero version. While the extra 00 does not seem like a big deal, it almost doubles the European house edge. This suggests we, the player, are going to lose more money in the long run if we play the American style, as opposed to the European counterpart.

In Australia, most land-based casinos have added the 00 to increase the profitability of each low end table. But the majority of high roller tables use the single 0.

The Roulette Table and Bet Types

Straight: a bet on an individual or single number.

Split: a bet on two numbers (example: 1 and 2)

Outside Bets

1 – 18: all numbers between 1 and 18

Black: All black numbers

Evens: All even numbers

Odds: All odd numbers

Dozens: Groups of 12 numbers: 1-12, 13-24 and 25-36

Columns: similar to the dozen bets, but along a perpendicular axis to the dozens

 

Called and Announced Bets

These types of bets create confusion amongst players, because the definitions of these terms vary between jurisdictions. Often this type of bet involves passing a stack of usually five betting chips to the dealer, and asking them to bet on an individual number and the two adjacent numbers either side of it on the physical wheel. These are called neighbour bets, and some casinos require them to be bet through the dealer, who then places the betting chips on an elliptical part of the betting table called the racetrack. In many European casinos, neighbour bets must be announced to the pit boss for them to be considered valid.

In other regions of the world, called or announced bets are bets where a player tells the dealer specific bet without physically placing a chip. This is intended to be used when a player does not have time to place the bet he or she wants. It is particularly useful on busy tables, but these types of bets are illegal in many jurisdictions. This is because these types of bets are considered credit, and it is too easy for dishonest players to place these bets without actually having the money. Usually these bets are only used by highrollers in VIP rooms, where the players are well known by the casino staff.

This is a bet that covers all numbers between 22 and 25 on the physical wheel, although only nine chips are used. The bet involves a combination of individual bets.

Orphelins

Neighbour bets

Typically five numbers that are directly next to each other on the wheel. Some casinos allow players to choose the amount of consecutive numbers that one neighbour bet reflects.

 

Inside Betting Strategy

While most popular roulette strategies stick to the outside bets, some players prefer to use the main grid on the layout. Inside bets pay higher than even-money and dozen wagers individually, but require more units per spin in order to cover as much (or more) of the wheel as outside wagers.

Here are two common strategies:

Double Street Quad

This method involves two six-line bets (two units each), one corner (one unit) and a single straight-up wager (one unit), thus covering up to 17 numbers altogether for six betting units. Each type of bet has a different payout – 5:1 for the six lines, 8:1 for the corner and 35:1 for the single number.

For example:
The following six lines: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12.
The following corner: 13, 14, 16, 17
The following straight-up number: 15

Five Quad

This strategy consists of five separate corner bets and one straight-up, each costing one betting unit each for a total of six units. This system covers 21 pockets, assuming our single number isn’t already included in one of the corner bets.

For example:
The following corners: (1, 2, 4, 5), (7, 8, 10, 11), (14, 15, 17, 18), (19, 20, 22, 23), (26, 27, 29, 30).
The following straight-up number: 31

Most of the returns in these two strategies pay less than 1:1 when you take the combined cost for each spin into account, with the exception of single-number wins. For example: if we place a Five Quad at $1 per unit and one of the corner bets hits, we win $8 but lose the $5 spent on the unsuccessful wagers, leaving us only $3 up. As such, these methods are favoured by players who like to grind it out and spend time at the table, rather than those who prefer to go for a big win in the space of a few spins.

The Betting Table

Inside bets: These are bets on individual numbers, two numbers, four numbers etc. One chip can be positioned to bet on multiple numbers.

Outside bets: These are actually the worst type of bets from a professional player’s view. If you’ve read a site advising these as safe bets, they are wrong, and probably referring to there being less time before winning bets, at least on average. Types of roulette bets include red and black (most popular), the 1-18 and 19-36 (betting that one number between each of these values will spin), odds and evens (odd or even number), the dozens (1-12, 13-24, 25-36). If you bet on any of the outside areas, you will lose if the winning number is green zero.

Is there a best roulette bet? Well besides betting based on sectors of the wheel, not really. If you are playing just for fun, one bet is just as good as another. Odds In The Real Money Roulette

The dealer, otherwise known as the croupier, then begins the rotation of the rotor, which is the internal and spinning part of the wheel containing the pockets. Double dozens and columns

Another option is to play two dozens or columns at once. Doing so greatly improves your chances of winning each spin (64.87% on single-zero layouts), but it cuts your payout to less than even money. For example: if we bet $5 on numbers 1 to 12 and $5 on 25 to 36, we have $10 across 24 pockets. But as they are separate bets, we lose one of them every time we win, so $5 for a $10 profit at 2:1 odds actually becomes $10 for $5 profit at 1:2 odds. And if you use a doubling up system every time you lose playing two dozens or columns every spin, you are going to come out behind over time.

For example:

  • $5 on the first 12; $5 on the third 12. Lose one (-$5), win the other (+$10). Up $5. That’s fine, then we can start again with two $5 bets.
  • But if we lost both (-$10), and thus doubled up on our next bet ($10 and $10), and then lost one (now -$20), and won the other (+$20), we are only breaking even. Hmmm. So let’s take it one step further.
  • If we lost the first two spins (-$30), and again doubled up on the next spin ($20 and $20) and lost one (now -$50) and won the other (+$40), we are still down $10. So if playing the double dozens/columns, you should not use the double up method.

If you intend to make back your money plus a profit after a win, then you would need to triple your bets, and by doing so, you stand to lay out a significant amount of cash ($130 by the third spin if starting with two $5 bets). And you must also be wary of the table max.

Can you win roulette every time

The best way to win roulette is with a roulette computer, and you can achieve an edge of over 100%. In one of my last public demos, I achieved a 120% edge which is a win on almost every spin. Now if I bet on just one spin, it could have been in the 7% of losing spins. It’s unlikely but possible. But if I played on 10 spins, almost certainly I would have profited.

My point is if you have an edge, the more you play, the more likely you are to profit. So yes you can win roulette every time with the right technology, assuming it’s applied correctly. Predicting spin results is not really the difficult part – it’s getting away with winning without being detected.

Martingale system

The Martingale system is tailored for casino games that offer even-money wagers such as red or black, odds or evens, and so on. It is the best-known tactic in roulette and has spawned many widely used variations. Mr Wells is said to have used this method on his bank-breaking exploits in Monte Carlo.

Using the basic Martingale, the player doubles their wager after every loss so as to recoup any and all deficits once a winning number comes up. After a win, they either start again at the original amount or quit the table. For example: we start with $5 on black and lose. Next we bet $10 and lose. Then we bet $20 and win, thus covering the $15 we lost and profiting $5. After that we can start again with a $5 bet, or leave.

The Martingale strategy works perfectly if two conditions are met: you have a never-ending bankroll, and there is no maximum bet. Unfortunately, most of us do not have eleventy squillion dollars lying around, and virtually all roulette tables are subject to betting limits.

To demonstrate the problem, let’s say we are at a table with a $5 minimum and $100 maximum. In this case, it is entirely possible under the Martingale approach to lose the first five bets ($5, $10, $20, $40, $80) and not be able to make the $160 wager required next, due to the $100 maximum, meaning we are $155 out of pocket with nowhere to go. So when using this system, it is important to choose a table with a low minimum and a relatively high maximum – and to make sure you’ve got enough coin to cover any extended bouts of bad luck.

There are myriad variations of the Martingale strategy, with two standing out:

Grand Martingale

Instead of simply doubling bets after losses, the player doubles and adds an extra unit. For example: if you lose on $5, the next bet is $15. While this boosts potential gains, it also increases the likelihood of big deficits and inflates the risk of hitting the betting limit very quickly.

Reverse Martingale

To simplify even further, as the American version contains an additional number (double zero), your chances of winning playing the US version are 38 to 1, compared to the single-zero European version where your odds are bettered to 37 to 1.

Biased wheels

In the past, it was possible to make a killing if you knew what circumstances to look for and how to exploit them. The most profitable roulette strategy that has ever existed is to find a biased wheel. Back in the days when casinos were less rigorous when it came to maintaining their games and equipment, it was possible for a wheel to become worn out and spin slightly off axis. This would result in the ball favouring certain groups of pockets.

The operators of the Monte Carlo Casino found this out to their great expense in 1875, when English engineer Joseph Jagger observed the various roulette tables and identified one that showed a consistent bias towards a certain selection of numbers. By betting on those pockets on that particular wheel, Jagger amassed over ВЈ60,000 in three days (in modern money, more than $1.2 million). Charles Wells, a petty criminal and con-artist from London, broke the bank (i.e. cleaned out a table of all its available money) in Monaco an astonishing 18 times in the 1890s, although it is debated whether he’d found a crooked wheel or simply had a heck of a hot streak.

To put it simply, it is all but impossible to win this way in the 21st century – brick-and-mortar casinos are fastidious about the upkeep of their tables these days. Still, if you are ever at Star City or Crown, it couldn’t hurt to keep an eye out for any irregularities that could improve your chances.

One such strategy includes the Kavouras strategy where players place one unit on a corner bet, two units on a double street bet and then one unit on five split bets, with each bet falling under the inside bets category. This strategy is said to see overall less losing streaks due to the 20 numbers played and every win is said to see a profit.

However, this strategy doesn’t reduce the house edge and at the end of the day roulette is based on luck and the house edge cannot be reduced by certain wager tactics as it can be in the game of 21.

Roulette Betting Options

There are many different betting options in roulette and it is a requirement for all tables to display the minimum and maximum bets allowed. The betting options are broken into two categories, inside and outside bets. They are labelled as such because of the layout of the table, as shown in the below image.

Outside Bets

Outside bets, as the name suggests, are bets which are located outside of the 1-36 number grid. They automatically lose if the ball lands on 0 or 00 because they are not red or black, odd or even, and don’t fall into any of the other categories.

  • Red & Black: There are 36 numbers on the roulette wheel which are split evenly in to red and black colours, and we can choose to bet whether the outcome of the spin will land on a red or black number. The payout is 1:1, but the true probability of winning the bet is 48.65% in European roulette, and 47.37% in the America version.
  • Odds & Evens: Here we can choose to bet on whether the ball will land on an odd or even number. The payout is also 1:1, and the probability is the same as red and black in each respective version.
  • 1-18 & 19-36: This bet is whether the ball will land on the first 18 numbers or the second 18 numbers. It has the same payout and the same probability as the other ‘even-money’ wagers above.
  • Dozens: This bet describes wagers which individually cover the first 12 numbers (1-12), the second 12 numbers (13-24), and the third 12 numbers (25-36); the table layout displays each of these sections outside their corresponding numbers. The payout is 2:1 and the chances of winning one bet on any of the dozens is 32.43% (European) and 31.58% (American).
  • Columns: There are three different columns on the roulette table, and the area to place a bet on any one of the three columns is below below the corresponding numbers (the boxes which say 2:1). The 12 numbers in each column go up in increments of three. The first columns numbers are 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34, the second columns numbers are 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 23, 26, 29, 32, 35 and the third columns numbers are 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36. The payouts and probabilities are identical to the dozens.

Inside Bets

Inside bets offer larger payouts than outside wagers but come with a significantly higher risk. All inside bets are located within the grid of numbers 0-36.

  • Single Number: The player bets on an individual number, which can include 0 and 00. The payout is 35:1 and the probability of winning such a bet is 1 in 37 (Euro) and 1 in 38 (US).
  • Split: The player places their chip or chips on the intersecting line between two numbers, for example, 24 and 27. The payout for winning this bet is 17:1. Our actual chances are less: 5.41% and 5.26% for the European and US versions respectively.
  • Street: A three number bet on any single horizontal line. Players place their chips on the edge of the furthermost number in their desired sequence (can be on the left or right side, depending on the layout).   • Corner: A bet on four numbers which are laid out in a square design. Players place their chip/s on the intersecting lines of those four numbers. If the ball lands on one of those numbers, we get paid out at 8:1. Chances of it happening: 10.81% (European) and 10.53% (American).
  • Six Line/Double Street: Here we are betting on six numbers that occupy two streets adjacent to one another. Place chips at the corresponding intersection (the intersecting point between two street bets, on the left or right of the edge of the layout). This bet gives you a payout of 5:1 and holds the best winning odds of all inside wagers: 16.22% on the single-zero layout, and 15.79% on the double layout version.
  • Trio: This bet only applies for European roulette and is wager on the adjoining lines of 0, 1 and 2, or 0, 2 and 3. It offers the same payout as a street bet with the same odds of winning.
  • Basket (Euro): Essentially the same as a corner bet, just including the use of the zero: place chips on either the far left or far right of the 0 line and 1, 2, 3 line (the same line). As we are betting on four numbers, the payout and odds are the same as the European payout and odds for the corner wager.
  • Basket (US): Betting on 0, 1, and 2; or 0, 00, and 2; or 00, 2, and 3, by placing chips at the intersecting point of the three desired numbers. Like the street bet, this holds a payout of 11:1 and a true winnings probability of 7.89%.
  • Top line: Known as the worst bet to make in roulette because the discrepancy in payout and actual winning odds is significantly large. Probability of of hitting: 5 in 38 (13.16%).

4. Wait until the dealer sweeps their arms across the layout and says “no more bets”.
5. At which point, you must pull your hands back from the layout.

For example: if we start with the $5 minimum and lose the first five bets, it goes $5, $5, $10, $15, $25; if we then win the following $40 wager, the next bet is $15.

The Fibonacci is much safer than many other methods – to compare, in the above example the sixth bet would have been $160 using the Martingale strategy. However, the Fibonacci becomes a constant loser the further into the sequence you get. For instance: if we start at $1 and lose seven on the trot to reach the $21 bet (the eighth number), we have lost $29 and thus will remain $8 down if we win the wager. If we lose the $21, we are $50 down and the next bet is only $34.

Reverse Fibonacci

Like the Reverse Martingale, the Reverse D’Alembert and the Reverse Labouchere, this is a positive spin on the standard Fibonacci strategy. You bet the next number in the sequence when you win and move back two numbers when you lose. Just between you and me, never, ever use this system – it requires far too high a win-loss ratio to make any kind of reliable profit, so you would quite literally be better off with flat bets.

Roulette is a game played with a large wheel that contains either 37 (in European roulette) or 38 (for American roulette) pockets. These stops are numbered from 0 to 36, while the American roulette wheel also contains a 00 pocket. Procedure For Betting

Basically when the dealer announces “place your bets”, you place your chips on whatever numbers you want. This is a simple betting strategy where the actual bet is irrelevant. The player simply doubles their bets after losing, with the intention of winning back losses plus an additional amount. In Roulette, the wheel contains 37 pockets, numbered zero to 36. You can make any combination of bets, on both individual numbers and groups of numbers, and all these bets are placed on the part of the table known as the ‘inside section’.

On the ‘outside section’, you can place wagers on a variety of matching pairs of bets, each of which covers 18 numbers. From high or low numbers, odd or even, and red or black, there are a number of options available.

On various parts of a Roulette table, you can also choose from six different 12-number bets, or ‘column’ and ‘dozen bets’, as well as different 17-number bets.
